Late last year, the concept for the luxurious Jeep Grand Wagoneer was introduced alongside the more affordable Wagoneer model. Last month they made their official debut, but unfortunately not in South Africa.
The Wagoneer is set to compete with the Ford Expedition and the Chevrolet Tahoe and the Grand Wagoneer is set to take on more high-end SUVs like the BMW X7, Cadillac Escalade and the Range Rover.
Let’s take a closer look at the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer and everything that it is set to offer.
What are the Trim Levels?
There will be four trim levels available for the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer, which include the entry-level Series I and Series II, the Obsidian and the high-end Series III.
There will be five pre-configured models for the Grand Wagoneer, with the first three having only one variant and the Series III will have two versions.
What’s Under the Hood?
There is a 6.4L V8 mill partnered with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer generates 471 horsepower with 455 of torque.
The luxury SUV offers an independent suspension which offers better handling and a softer ride. Ride height can be adjusted up to 3.6 inches or reduced by half an inch with the optional adaptive air suspension.
The SUV can tow up to 9 860 pounds with 10 inches of ground clearance and with up to two feet of water fording potential.
There is more than enough space for large families with standard three-row seating and up to 8 passengers. It offers two standard second-row captain chairs and an available bench seat.
Luxury is featured everywhere within the Grand Wagoneer with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a heads-up display, ambient interior lighting, rear seat monitoring and camera fed rear-view mirror.
There is no shortage of boot space either with 27 cubic feet, but when the third-row seats are folded this extends to 71 cubics.
Talk About Infotainment
The multifaceted infotainment system is a stand-out in its segment. There is a large 12-inch centre display that sits above a 10.3-inch touchscreen with HVAC system controls.
The Series II will gain another 10.3-inch touchscreen that is located for the front seat passenger.
Standard features are subscription-based WIFI hotspot, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay plus USB ports for all passengers. Between the captain’s chairs, second-row passengers can benefit from a 10.3-inch display.
Safety Comes First
The Jeep Wagoneer is fitted with the standard driver assistance systems, but the 2022 Grand Wagoneer offers so much more with night vision with animal and pedestrian detection, a self-parking function and adaptive cruise control.
In terms of safety, you can benefit from lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, automated emergency braking and rear cross-traffic alert.
The 2022 Grand Wagoneer, so far doesn’t look like it will launch in South Africa, but if you are after a bigger Jeep then take a look at the new Jeep Grand Cherokee L.
