Checks You Should Be Performing on Your Car

July 8, 2021

Owning a car means that you will need to perform certain checks that will make sure your car runs smoothly and you are driving safely.

Here are car checks, you should be doing.

The Oil Check

You will have to check your oil levels often as it provides lubrication to the engine. Oil should be changed about twice a year, but make sure you are using the correct grade oil for your car.

The Water Check

The water level in your car needs to be enough, but don’t just use water. It is advised to use antifreeze with water at a ratio of 50/50 as this will prevent the water from boiling or freezing and helps keep the engine cool. Antifreeze should be replaced every two years.

The Brake Fluid Check

Make sure there is enough brake fluid in the brake fluid canister. If you are not familiar with how to check this, then take a look at the owner’s manual.

The Wiper Check

You will need to check the wipers to make sure they are working and that the wiper blades haven’t worn. Whilst checking your wipers, also check to see if there is enough water in your windscreen washer. Wipers should be replaced each year.

The Lights Check

Check your lights once a week and if any light isn’t working then you might need to replace a fuse or bulb.

The Tyre Check

Make sure that your tyres are inflated correctly every week. The recommended tyre pressure can be found in the owner’s manual. If the tyre tread is worn then you will need to replace your tyres.

The Paint Check

You can prevent the paint from corroding by washing and waxing your car often. It is best to use cleaning products that have been designed for cars.

On top of regular maintenance, you will need to have your car serviced when it is due to keep your car running correctly.

If you have any issues with your car then you should get them fixed as a small problem now could become a bigger problem later.

Basic car maintenance is not difficult and by performing regular checks, you can avoid serious issues later. Also, a car that has been maintained and serviced will be worth more if you decide to sell.
